Synopsis

Biographic, drama. Story of the conflict of Georges Danton and Maximilian Robespierre, dealing with the last eight days of Danton's life, against the background of the French Revolution. Action opens in November of 1793, with Danton returning to Paris from his country retreat upon learning that the Committee for Public Safety, under Robespierre's incitement, has begun a series of massive executions, known as 'The Terror'. Confident in the people support, Danton clashes with his former ally, but the calculating Robespierre soon rounds up Danton and his followers and puts them on trial before a revolutionary tribunal and dipatches them to the guillotine.
