Synopsis

A famous Parisian jewel thief, known as the Rat, is entrusted with the care of Odile, the daughter of a criminal friend who has been executed. She goes to live with him in Montmartre and falls in love with him. The Rat, however, becomes involved with Zelia, mistress of South American millionaire Stets, with the intention of robbing her of her pearls. When Zelia breaks with Stets to be with the Rat, the millionaire makes advances towards Odile who shoots him in self-defence. Odile is arrested for the murder, but the Rat gives himself up to the police declaring that it was he who killed Stets, not Odile. At the trial, however, Zelia comes forward and swears that the Rat had been with her all the night of the murder even though he had not. The Rat is acquitted, and Odile is sentenced to one year's imprisonment. Realising he loves her, the Rat says he will wait for her.
