Show Business
Sentimental period comedy of a burlesque act which is interrupted by the 1914-18 war. In the early years of the century, Eddie Martin and George Doane team up as a pair of song and dance men in vaudeville. When they meet Constance Ford and Joan Mason, all four become part of the same act. George and Constance eventually get married. When Connie is in hospital to have their baby, an old flame of George's, Nancy Gaye, offers to give him a lift, but she purposely takes him in the wrong direction. They swerve off the road and hit a tree. By the time that George reaches the hospital he finds that the baby has died, and Connie tells him to leave, believing that he had been spending his time with Nancy. George enlists in the army in 1917 and goes off to fight in France. On his return he finds that Connie has divorced him and still will not forgive him, despite the efforts of Eddie and Joan to bring them together. George hits skid row, singing in bars for drinks. Eddie manages to find George and helps to sober him up and persuade him to rejoin the act. Connie eventually realises that she still loves George, and all is resolved in a double wedding, with Eddie and Joan finally getting married also.
