SAYAT NOVA

  • Stills (3)

Lyrical evocation of the life of the 18th century Armenian poet Harutyan Sayatyan (a.k.a. Sayat Nova) who was famous as a troubadour and writer of love poems and songs. The film uses symbolic imagery patterned after Armenian icons and the folk theatre traditions of masque and mime and is told through a series of titled episodes. There is no synchronised dialogue, only quotations from the poet's verse and voice-over commentary.
