NOSTALGHIA

Drama. Andrei Gorchakov is a misanthropic Russian scholar studying the life of an exiled Russian composer who committed suicide. With the help of his beautiful guide, Eugenia, Andrei visits spiritual and religious sites on the track of the late composer's legacy. Haunted by the ghost of the composer's remembrance, Andrei soon finds himself the prey of a gloomy nostalgia for his Russian mother country, only to find rescue in the figure of a madman, Domenico, whom he meets at St. Catherine's pool, a sacred site in Siena. Domenico, an ex-professor who once locked his family away for seven years in the expectation of Armageddon, now conducts a apparently insane existence, believing that if he can go across the pool with a burning candle, he can rescue all of humanity.
