Period adventure film. In 1936, doctor of archaeology Indiana Jones enters a race against the Nazis to find the Ark of the Covenant, the chest containing the ten commandments, now sought by Hitler for its power in battle. In Nepal, Indy's old flame Marion Ravenwood has a vital clue to the Ark's resting place. At the excavation in Egypt, Indy and his friend Sallah locate the Ark in The Well of Souls, a huge pit covered in snakes, but rival archaeologist Belloq, a Frenchman working for the Nazis, takes it from them. After various adventures, the Ark is opened in a secret island ceremony, and an angel of death destroys those who dare to watch. Indy and Marion live, but the Ark is simply locked away in a crate in a vast US government warehouse.
