Synopsis

Documentary about the Thames and its history within the commercial and economic life of London, looking also at the legacy of that history along the banks of the river now. Travelling on the tide in a small boat between Seaward Limit and London Bridge (a distance of 50 miles), the camera scans the Kent and Essex shores. This modern scene is interwoven with paintings, engravings, photographs and archive film which reveals a time when the river was artery to an empire and the busiest waterway in the world.
