Synopsis

Examines the ideas of Professor Martin Bernal set out in his book "Black Athena" published in 1987 in which he argues that the West's view of Greek civilisation has been distorted to promote the white Aryan model to the detriment of black African and Semitic cultures. He places the ancient Egyptians and Phoenicians at the very origins of Western culture, calling into question the 'Europeanness' of Western civilisation.
