- BIRDS OF THE SAME FEATHER Alternative
Set during the 1930's on a rubber plantation in the Malabar Hills. The workers on the plantation live a miserable life caught between the tyranny of the 'white' owners and that of the labour contractor. Into their lives comes a stranger who is literate and also a Brahmin. He makes the workers realise that unity brings power and helps them (the women included) to stand up to their tyrants. They sing a ballad about the Moplah rebellion of 1921 (the director narrates the tragedy of the event during the song) which is one of the highlights of the film.
