Comedy drama set in the Irish village of Kilshannon in the mid-1920s. The town is a parochial, middle-class enclave ruled over by Mrs Doyle Counihan. When an American of British descent comes to live in the village she stirs up resentment and hatred in one of the local spinsters, with dramatic results.
