Synopsis

Investigates the phenomenon of synaesthesia, a disorder of perception in which barriers between the senses dissolve so that people may end up seeing words, tasting shapes or smelling sounds. The title is taken from a woman's confession that she saw orange sherbet when her boyfriend kissed her. The condition has been known about for over 300 years, but only recently has the advent of high tech brain imaging techniques allowed scientists to take a closer look. Their investigations have triggered a debate on how the brain is organised and how normal perception works.
