Synopsis

Following the death of her mother Sara, nineteen year old Lucy is sent from America by her step father to Italy to an expatriate community in Tuscany she had visited four years previously. Her mother had also spent some time there when Lucy was conceived. She is to have her portrait painted by Ian Grayson, one of Sara's old artist friends. Lucy hopes to meet Niccolò, the boy she had fallen in love with on her last visit. She also hopes to discover the identity of her real father. Other members of the group of ex-patriate residents become drawn to her in various ways; particularly the dying playwright, Alex Parrish.
