Ride with the Devil
A story set against the background of the American Civil War, and particularly concentrated around the border separating Missouri from Kansas. Inevitably violence erupts between men who were once friends and close family members. Jack Bull Chiles, a young man whose father is killed by the Northerners, and his close friend Jake, join a band of `guerilla' fighters, despite the fact that Jake's father supports the Yankees. During the course of the fighting they come in contact with a young widow, Sue Lee Shelley, who falls in love with Jack Bull.
