Synopsis

Musical drama. A Czech woman, Selma, who is almost blind herself, works hard to save money for her son's eye operation. She works at a small pressing plant in the United States, and counts among her friends another immigrant, Kathy, and her landlord, Bill. When Bill tells her he is almost penniless due to his wife's extravagances, Selma discloses her secret: she has saved around $2 000 for her son's operation. When her savings then mysteriously disappear, she confronts Bill, who reveals he has a gun, and there is a struggle. Bill dies as a result, and Selma is put on trial for murder.
