Themed anthology of three short films on the changing lesbian experience in America. Titled: "1961", "1972" and "2000". "1961": The story of retired schoolteachers Edith and Abby who have been together for decades. A story of loss as Abby dies as the result of a backyard accident and each of three family members relates to Edith on a different emotional plane. "1972": Linda lives with a group of lesbian feminists. After an unpleasant confrontation with the feminist college powers, Linda et al stop for a drink at a gay bar, where they look down on the butch-femme couples they see, considering the women dressed as men to be participating in their own oppression. But Linda finds herself charmed by butch Amy who wears a tie, drives a motorcycle and acts the true gentleman. As she finds herself falling in love, Linda must confront her own prejudices, as well as those of her close-knit friends and political allies. "2000": This episode charts the efforts of contemporary lesbian couple Fran and Kal to have a baby. Comic moments include the lovers seeking the appropriate father on the Internet and the practicalities of impregnation.
