Comedy drama set in 1940: Betty Ann Fitzgerald is a manager for Northcoast Insurance and there is mutual antipathy between her and employee C.W. Briggs, an insurance investigator whose methods seem to Betty Ann to date from another era. At a works party held for Briggs' co-worker George, the office team conspire to get Briggs and Betty Ann up on stage with a hypnotist named Voltan, who makes them believe they are in love. This is complicated because Betty Ann is carrying on an affair with Chris Magruder, head of the company. Some time later, Voltan uses Briggs as his pawn in a jewel heist.
