The strange story of Igby Slocumb who, with his brother Oliver, murders their mother while she sleeps. Sent to a military academy Igby escapes to Manhattan, where he meets a variety of characters - such as the wealthy D.H. Baines and his beautiful mistress Rachel, as well as Rachel's drugs-supplier Russel and a student named Sookie Sapperstein.
