Synopsis

The first of two programmes on Mars, which explores how the search for life on the planet is hotting up, and why many scientists are becoming convinced that life may have arisen on the planet, and that there may even be something living there now. Participants include: Drs Matthew Golombek, Timothy Parker and Kenneth Nealson of the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Prof William Hartmann of the Planetary Science Institute in Arizona, Prof James Head, Department of Geological Sciences, Brown University, Dr Michael Carr of the US Geological Survey, Dr Jim Rice of the Mars Exploration Programme, Arizona State University, Prof Michael Russell of the Scottish Universities Environmental Research Centre, Dr David Gilichinsky of the Institute of Biological Problems in Soil Science, Dr Monica Grady, Department of Mineralogy, Natural History Museum, and David McKay, Dan Goldin and Everrett Gibson of NASA.
