Set in East Germany during 1989-1990. When his mother has a heart attack and falls into a coma, just before the fall of the Berlin wall, her son Alex sees her sleep through the triumph of capitalism. However, when she revives some months later, he is terrified that any form of excitement might bring on another attack. He therefore constructs an elaborate charade to make her believe that everyday life in the GDR has not changed.
