Nicholas, a young Scottish doctor, comes to Uganda to escape the boredom of home and with an idea of doing good work. His arrival coincides with the rise to power of Idi Amin, a lover of all things Scottish. A chance encounter leads to Nicholas's appointment as Amin's personal physician. At first charmed, Nicholas finally has to face up to the brutality of Amin and his regime.
