Horror story based on a true incident which occurred in Galicia in 1851, when Manuel Blanco Romasanta, a travelling salesman, confessed to murdering thirteen people and using their body fat to make soap. Romasanta was tried in Allaríz in 1852 and avoided capital punishment by claiming to be a werewolf. The film centres on the village of Allariz where local villagers disappear and their bodies are found in a forest. The legend of the Werewolf of Allariz spreads. A travelling salesman called Manuel Romasanta who sells soap to the villagers becomes involved with Barbara whose sister has disappeared. She begins to suspect Manuel and her suspicions are eventually confirmed. Manuel proclaims his innocence, based on a curse that turns him into a werewolf. The villagers are divided over his guilt when the upper class citizens, led by the renownwed Professor Phillips, declare that Manuel Romasanta is suffering from an illness called lycantropy.
