Comments
These films are the pinnacles of achievement and have profoundly influenced me. Some of these films are not that well known but are masterworks. I could easily list 100 more films, and lament not including Griffith, Eisenstein, Leacock, Jordan Belson, Kenneth Anger, Robert Bresson, Bruce Conner, Maya Deren, Carl Dreyer, Louis Feuillade, Murnau, Alan Resnais, Paul Sharits and Hollis Frampton, to cite some. Many of the films I included deal with illusion (Boorman, Hitchcock), myth (Baillie, Kavur), the whole century of cinema (Greenfield) and philosophy (Elder).
