I think trying to draw up a list of the greatest whatever is a mug’s game. These are the movies that have done the most for my imagination. And yes, I do know that two of them (Greed and The Magnificent Ambersons) have been severely compromised by studio abridgement, but that doesn’t reduce their galvanic effect upon me.
