In putting together this ten-film list I followed one rule and one rule only: to choose films I simply cannot do without, not merely as a film critic but as a human being. I didn’t measure their importance on the grand scale of film history, nor did I resort to any prior lists or theories. These are my desert island films, the ones I would definitely need in my survival kit (although some food and band-aids would also come in handy).
