This is a strictly personal, open-ended attempt to tackle the selection process, with preference given to works (particularly those within a significant oeuvre) that have impacted my own perspective on cinema, over those traditionally singled out under the banner of ‘objective greatness’ (eg Late Spring over Tokyo Story, A Canterbury Tale over The Red Shoes, and so on).
