I guess I would typify this rather strange list of films in terms of rule breaking, both with regard to their subject matter – challenging the established order, whether outlaws, terrorists or political activists – but also formally, by subverting or pushing the boundaries of narrative and generic conventions. All of them, I think, also have a unique visual style.
