I can’t detect any logic or defining idea of what I want from a film in this list. They’re just the films that insisted on popping into my head. The neon of their titles flashed brightest among the hundreds of others vying for my attention. The two Tarkovsky films, Mirror and Stalker, have a primal power and profundity that is unmatched by any of the others. If I had to choose just one it would be Christian Marclay’s The Clock.
