This pure post-war list may seem strange, especially if I say that I prefer Buñuel to Dreyer and Italian cinema to American cinema. Perhaps it’s simply because this kind of list – at least at the individual level – locates more atypical peaks than long-term patterns. What else? Jacques Tati’s Playtime is probably the greatest political film of the second part of the 20th century, while Our Daily Bread is the one for the early 21st century. Courage, then...
