The criteria is that these are films I would happily watch again and again and again. They are my personal classics, and the list could have extended to 20, 30, 40 films… My priorities are quality of performance, emotional impact and structuring intelligence – and in this set of ten I find all of these qualities in abundance. These are films I love and respect and would enjoy (and have enjoyed) defending in the face of criticism.
